Healthcare enrollment periods determine when you can sign up for, change, or disenroll from coverage. Missing a deadline can lead to gaps in coverage or late-enrollment penalties.
Current Enrollment Dates & Deadlines
ACA Marketplace: 2027 Coverage
November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027
Open Enrollment for individual and family Marketplace health insurance. HealthCare.gov also identifies December 15 as the deadline to enroll for coverage beginning January 1; enrollment by January 15 generally starts coverage February 1.
Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP)
October 15 – December 7, 2026
Medicare beneficiaries can review and make changes to Medicare Advantage and prescription drug coverage for 2027. Changes generally take effect January 1, 2027.
Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (OEP)
January 1 – March 31, 2027
Individuals already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan may make one permitted change during this period, including switching Medicare Advantage plans or returning to Original Medicare.
Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs)
May be available throughout the year.
Certain life events or changes in circumstances may allow you to enroll in or change coverage outside the regular enrollment periods. Eligibility and timeframes vary depending on the situation.
Health Sharing
Enrollment is available year-round.
Unlike ACA Marketplace coverage, Health Sharing programs may allow individuals and families to apply throughout the year, subject to the specific program's eligibility requirements, membership guidelines and state availability.
